Plank...

I’ve never ever understood the reasons why any F&B establishments would open their restaurant at a location that is so inaccessible and inconvenient. Even though Singapore’s really small, I still find it a hassle to travel to a place that’s not near to any public transport, especially cafés or restaurants that are located inside the private estates. Imagine walking under the scorching hot sun and getting lost in the estates all tired and sweaty, Nah, I’ll probably skip it and choose to go somewhere more convenient unless the place is worth the travel. Plank Sourdough Pizza, a sister branch of Baker & Cook, is one of the few ulu (remote) places in Singapore that I am more than willing to travel and hike (a lot of steep slopes) for their delicious pizzas.

Following the resounding success of the restaurant’s Pilot Plank Sourdough Pizza alongside Baker & Cook in Opera Estate, professional baker and award-winning pâtissier Dean Brettschneider opens another outlet at Namly Place showcasing Plank’s unique and well-loved sourdough-crust pizza, made with the same long fermentation process as the famous sourdough bread at Brettschneider’s artisan bakery and foodstore Baker & Cook.

Using a combination of flours slowly fermented with natural wild yeast for up to 48 hours at 8°C, it is traditionally pressed out and baked at high heat between 380°C and 400°C to attain its cushiony-soft texture, perfect outer crisp and subtle tangy flavour.

Only using the finest in quality ingredients and flavour, Plank at Namly Place is big, comfy and spacious. Plank is a very strong family-oriented restaurant, welcoming all families to dine and spent their time together over some good pizzas. Pets are also allowed in the restaurant.

Tomato, Sautee Onions, Portobello + Oyster Mushrooms with Mirin, Flaked Parmesan + Truffle Oil - Vegetarian // $24

The truffle smell was really strong and aromatic. I was about to drool when the pizza was served on my table. It was huge and they were really very generous in the amount of toppings they placed on the pizza itself (I almost couldn't find the base of the pizza). Even though the pizza was left on the table for quite awhile (we were busy snapping photos), the crust of the pizza still remains crispy during the first bite and soft on the inside. I was really impressed with Plank’s sourdough pizza because most of the pizzas I had were very tough to bite and chew once it turns cold. The flaked parmesan also goes very well with the truffle oil and it got me so addicted to the pizza even though it’s vegetarian (I’m a meat-lover). The mushrooms were also fresh and well-marinated. What I liked most about the pizza was that I don’t really feel thirsty when I’m in the midst of eating it. Probably because the ingredients were fresh and there wasn’t a lot of MSG in the pizza. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian will definitely love this!

Tomato, Pulled BBQ Chicken. Cranberry Compote, Camembert, Rocket, Extra Virgin Olive Oil // $23

Seriously, this was so good! Not kidding but I could easily finish the entire pizza on my own if my stomach was feeling a little bit better. I really liked the cranberry sauce on the pizza which I did not get sick of. It goes extremely well with the pulled BBQ chicken which was nicely marinated. Not forgetting the tomatoes and rocket which are also good complements, providing further flavour and texture to the overall pizza. A must-try at Plank!

Plank Affogato // $9.50

Vanilla Ice Cream, Double Shot Allpress Espresso, Caramel Sauce and Toasted Almonds with a dust of Icing Sugar + Cinnamon

This dessert snapped me out from my food coma. I usually don’t drink espresso because I don’t really know how to appreciate it and it is way too bitter for me. In this case, the vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce took away the bitterness of the espresso, causing the flavour to be more balanced and acceptable (for people like me). The amount of espresso to add really depends on your preference. The toasted nuts was a perfect finish to the dessert because it provides this extra crunch which got me wanting it more and more. A good dessert to complete the meal!

Cheese Plank Pizza // $14

Caramelized garlic crème fraiche, blue cheese, fig jam, caramelized walnuts, maple syrup, thyme + lemon zest

The cheese plank was huge and appetizing. I could see all the hot melted cheese bubbling on the surface of the pizza when it was served onto our table. The blue cheese was so addictive! Definitely good for sharing!

Thank you Plank Sourdough Pizza and Mango PR for the invitation and Tiara for the great hospitality!
