Big Street...

No idea where to have supper? Or sick of the old supper places? Fear not, supper will never be the same again, especially with the recent opening of Big Street at Jalan Besar. With them being featured on the Smart Local not long ago, Big Street saw a huge surge in their popularity, in particular their highly raved-about Salted Egg Prata. Long queues were seen forming outside their restaurant and many were willing to wait.

Housed along the shophouses at Jalan Besar, Big Street is one new hipster air-conditioned supper place that serves local and fusion food, and perhaps an alternative to Swee Choon. Opened from 11am to 3am daily except on Monday, there’s no need for you to crack your mind on where to get your supper cravings satisfied during the wee hours.

Big Street also serves alcoholic drinks but their license is only up till 12am.

Salted Egg Prata // $6.80

The highly raved-about Salted Egg Prata that everyone is talking about. Portion was really small, definitely not sufficient if you are looking at a heavy supper, but good if you just want a light bite. The salted egg sauce was really delicious, very rich and creamy, and they are very generous in the amount of salted egg sauce infused into the prata. The salted egg sauce really paired well with the prata. They also gave a strawberry to cleanse your palette, especially if the jelatness gets into you, and it also balances out the savoury aspect of the entire dish.

The downside would probably be the waiting time. I waited about 25 minutes before the prata was served onto my table. Not advisable to only order this if you are feeling very hungry that day. If not, it is a must-try!

Prata Roll (Mutton) // $12

Honestly speaking, it is really very expensive as compared to the other prata shops outside, just by comparing the small portion they served here at Big Street. But I guess I'm also paying for the ambiance and the service. The place is well-ventilated, air-conditioned and provides free Wifi.

The Mutton roll was not too bad. Wasn't very dry and the meat was quite tender. The salad was probably the one that caught my attention. It was really well-dressed and the vegetables were really fresh and crunchy. If you are on a diet but still wants to satisfy your supper cravings, then by all means, just eat the salads only. You won't regret!

I also ordered their signature Iced Teh Tarik but it was abit too diluted for me. Would recommend to get their teas instead! But okay, the view and company made up for it.

Entrance & First Level

The interior design of Big Street gives off a very cosy and comfortable vibe!

Second Level

Overall, it was quite a good experience at Big Street. So is it an alternative to Swee Choon, I'll let you guys decide because I went to Swee Choon shortly after finishing my supper at Big Street. Not because it wasn't good but because I wasn't really full!
