Wan He Lou...

Two more weeks to National Day! That means it’s a Public Holiday for us! Have you had any plans on what to do on that day? If you haven’t, you might want to include Wan He Lou into your itinerary on National Day! To celebrate Singapore’s 52nd birthday, Wan He Lou has specially created two National Day Specials – Chilli Crab Pate paired with Poached Langoustine and Scallop with Cheesy Black Truffle Sauce which I believe all Singaporeans will fall in love with them. Besides, Wan He Lou’s signature dishes are equally impressive, especially their rich and flavourful Lobster Porridge which I can’t wait to share in my blog post. So, feast this National Day with your family at Wan He Lou! Remember to give them a call to make reservation!

Overall, I was very satisfied with the dishes at Wan He Lou! They were definitely above average and I believe if you come from a more traditional family, this is a good place to have a reunion dinner.

Wan He Lou Golden Seafood "Pot Sticker" // 6 for $12 & 9 for $18
Similar to its name, the dumplings were very sticky, especially the base. It was a combination of Guo Tie (exterior) and Xia Long Bao (inner). The combination surprisingly works with its exterior very crispy and fillings being very flavourful. Highly recommended and also, remember to eat them while it’s hot! I don’t think you need any sauce for this as well!

Pan Fried Kurobuta Pork // $14.90 (S) & $24.90 (M)
If you have a sweet tooth, this dish will appeal to you! There was a mixed reviews about the dish. Some liked it but personally, I thought it was a little too sweet for me. The pork was tender though.

Crispy Lotus Root with Salted Egg Yolk // $11.90 (S) & $19.90 (M)
I don’t think anyone will ever dislike this! The lotus root was extremely crispy (it produces a crisp sound even when you gently bite it)! It was soaked with salted egg, making it very aromatic. Also, it was so addictive that I couldn’t stop myself from finishing the entire bowl.

Signature Lobster Porridge // $31.90 onwards (seasonal)
Here comes the highlight and my favourite dish at Wan He Lou. First of all, the size and price of the lobster depends on its availability and seasonality. But even if it’s expensive, this dish is definitely worth the try! The soup was rich, flavourful and super sweet. I kept going after the broth because it was so comforting. The porridge was well-cooked, not too hard nor soft. Lobsters were really fresh, and the meat was divine! A must-order!

Chilli Crab Pate paired with Poached Langoustine
Very refreshing rendition of our signature Chilli Crab but instead Wan He Lou uses prawns as a substitute for the crabs and I thought it was a very smart move. It is easily to eat and prawns are meatier and firmer. The sauce wasn’t spicy and it was more tuned towards the sweeter spectrum. Not bad I guess!

Scallop with Cheesy Black Truffle Sauce
Another well-received dish! The scallops were very fresh and cleverly torched with Cheesy Black Truffle Sauce which works perfectly. My eyes lit when I popped the scallop into my mouth. Damn delicious please!

Coconut Pudding with Ice Cream // $9.90
Totally worth my $9.90! Initially, I thought this wasn’t made in-house but apparently this dessert was put together by Wan He Lou. The pudding was super soft, had a very similar texture and flavour (probably for me) to that of almond. I went scoop after scoop. Seriously, most of us couldn’t stop eating it! The coconut ice cream was not too bad, had a very distinct coconut fragrance but I still prefer the pudding!
