Tian Tian Fisherman's Pier Seafood Restaurant...

If you search up the net, the most common review about Tian Tian Fisherman’s Pier Seafood Restaurant is that it is overrated. Overrated because it is overpriced and the service is poor. Yes, I do agree that the prices aren’t really that friendly but I thought it was value-for-money. Not only are you paying for the quality of the seafood, you are also paying for the ambience. Tian Tian Fisherman’s Pier Seafood is located in Boat Quay (overseeing the river at its alfresco area) which explains why it is not cheap. The other prominent comment that surfaced on the net complained about Tian Tian’s poor and slow service. Honestly, I beg to differ because the server that day was attentive, knowledgeable and very approachable. Perhaps the poor and slow service was due to a lack of manpower? Give them a second chance and if they screw it up again, the judgement is clear.

Personally, I was impressed with most of the dishes at Tian Tian. They were very innovative, creating new dishes that were inspired by Southeast Asian culture and flavours. Of course, they tuned it more towards the Singaporeans’ taste buds. Besides offering cooked food, they also have Steam Hotpot for the health-conscious crowd. So, if you are looking at a family-gathering, Tian Tian Fisherman’s Pier Seafood Restaurant is the place to go.

In frame, some of the signatures of Tian Tian Fisherman’s Pier Seafood Restaurant. The portion, as you can see from the picture, was huge!

The Cold Plate was one of the hot favourite that day, especially the fried octopus and croquettes. The fried octopus was very crispy and flavourful. It was so addictive everyone snatched to finish it. Also, it goes very well with an iced cold beer. The croquettes were equally tasty. Within the crispy outer layer lies a well-balanced tuna and mango salad fillings which were pleasurable to the taste buds. The combination was surprisingly good and refreshing. Remember to dip it with mayo sauce. The smoked duck was not too bad, tender and juicy but the sauce was a little too salty for me. I didn’t quite like the papaya salad because it has an acquired taste which I wasn’t very familiar with.

The long beans were flavourful and crunchy. Thankfully, it wasn’t soggy! The minced meat and chopped garlic added aroma and flavour to the dish. Simple dish but I like it a lot. Probably need a bowl of rice to go with it.

The fish did not smell and taste fishy at all. It was covered with Thai spices which made the fish very appetising because it was sweet and sour at the same time. The meat was soft and the natural sweetness of the fish lingers in the mouth.

They were very generous with the portion they served. The roasted chicken was firm. There’s no need to dip it into the given sauce since it is already flavourful enough.

The beef was well-marinated and tender. It wasn’t dry and the roasted potatoes stole the show. It was very soft and flavourful. Love the fragrance from the fried garlic as well.

This Green Curry Sri Lanka Crab was an example of a new dish that was Southeast Asia-inspired. The green curry was rich, flavourful and it wasn’t very spicy. The Sri Lanka Crab was huge and meaty. The huge chunk of meat falls easily off the crab and it is so sweet! A must-try!

Other than all of these, they also have the Steam Hotpot! Locked in the natural freshness and sweetness of the seafood!
The prawns were big-ass huge and very sweet! Couldn’t stop myself from finishing it! Portion was insanely big as well!

The porridge was comforting, and the best way to end off the meal. It was light, and flavourful!

So is the Michelin-awarded Tian Tian Fisherman’s Pier Seafood Restaurant overrated? Personally, I do not agree with this statement! Even though it is a little pricey, you are actually paying for the quality and ambience. At least give it a try!

  4. I enjoyed reading your article about this place! What many people do not understand is that there is much more to what something’s value is than its actual physical worth. You are so right that ambiance and other factors are what really make the trip! Your writing makes me want to visit.

  6. Scammers, lure you in with empty promised. Got charged over $3300 SGD for 2 crabs and a "free" pitcher of beer. Hopefully people will catch on and they will starve after they have scammed everyone.
