In & Out Cafe at Big Box...

People residing in the West would be very familiar with Jem, Westgate and J Cube. But not many people know of a new mall that is recently opened in the same vicinity. Big Box is the latest addition to the West “Orchard” side of Singapore and houses to eight storey high with a factory and store run concept.

Located within Big Box, In & Out Café is a combination of a café and kopitiam concept that has a laid-back ambiance with spacious and comfortable seating. There are two different counters within the café itself with one serving authentic Japanese cuisine and another serving Western-Asian fusion cuisine. What's so attractive about this place is the quality of food they serve as well as the price of the food. Be it students or working adults, their value-for-money set meals are definitely one of the reasons why you should pay them a visit real soon.

In frame, Sobameshi, Agedashi Tofu, Pork Katsu Curry, Grilled Chicken with Mushroom Sauce and Rainbow Cake. This could have been a good place for me to hang out with my friends when I was still studying in NTU. The place is big, food is good and it is so affordable!

Katsu Curry // $11.80

A set like this only costs you like $11.80! So damn cheap! And it’s cooked by a very experienced Japanese Chef! The rice was soft and moist, very similar to the one I have tasted when I was in Japan. The curry was not too sweet (Some Japanese curry are so sweet that it feels so artificial) and not too spicy. It was also very aromatic! The potatoes and carrots were soft but not soaky. The chicken katsu was well-fried and very crispy. All in all, I think this Katsu Curry set is really very worth the price you are paying off because it comes with so many sides. Oh, you get a free hot green tea as well!

Sobameshi // $6

This dish is really special. Not the usual soba that you can find in a Japanese restaurant because they mixed fried rice and shredded soba together. It was really flavourful but yet not too jelat. The soba and rice really complements each other very well, especially the different texture that both offers. It was so addictive! A must-try! The $6 also includes a drink of your choice! Very worth it!

Agedashi Tofu // $2

One of the sides you must order and it’s only $2! The outer layer of the tofu was really crispy and flavourful while the inner layer was soft and moist! I also liked the mild salty flavour of the sauce! A good appetiser to start off your meal!

Grilled Chicken with Mushroom Sauce// $9.90

Unbelievable! This whole set only costs $9.90! To be honest, I thought the chicken was going to taste bad because it was so cheap! It turns out surprisingly taste. The chicken wasn’t dry but tender and juicy. The portion wasn’t small and the mushroom sauce is to die for. So flavourful and addictive!

Rainbow Cake // $5.90

If you have been following me closely, you should know that I have a love and hate relationship with rainbow cakes. Yes, it is very Instagram-worthy but taste wise, there has yet to have one that has impressed me. Surprisingly, this wasn’t as bad as what I thought it would be. The cake wasn’t dry, only some parts in the middle and it was rich but not jelat. There are also tea break specials where you can top up to get a drink. Not bad ah!

Thank you Big Box and In & Out Café for the invitation, hospitality and great service. I really enjoyed myself!
