Sin Lee Foods...

Sin Lee Foods was named one of the best cafes in 2015, alongside with other popular and renowned cafes in Singapore. I'm glad I finally made my way to Sin Lee Foods on the first day of 2016 because the food here is simply amazing. Even though it is expensive, it's worth it.

The place was packed with so many people when I was there in the afternoon. I didn't expect it to be so crowded so early in the afternoon. I guess the crowd already speaks something of the cafe.

Salted Egg Sweet Potato Fries // $12
One of the most popular dishes at Sin Lee Foods and one of my favorites too. The sweet potato fries were not too oily, and it was still very crispy even though I left it on the table for quite awhile. (I was busy taking photos of it) What stood out most was the homemade salted duck's egg sauce, because it was well-marinated, not too jelat, and it complements the sweet potato fries very well. They were also quite generous in the portion they served. This is definitely the dish to get when you are at Sin Lee and it's great for sharing.

No doubt almost all the table that day ordered this dish because it was really very impressive. How I wish I could make something like this!

Sin Lee's Chicken & Waffles // $21.90
Seriously, I don't understand why so many people criticized the chicken for being too dry because I think it was not. On the contrary, the fried chicken was well-marinated, juicy, and very crispy. The fried chicken somehow tasted like Har Jeong Kai chicken to me but I'm not complaining because I'm a huge fan of Har Jeong Kai related food. The waffle, on the other hand, was soft and fluffy on the inside while the outside was very crispy. The coleslaw was very refreshing, especially if you find the chicken too oily after awhile because it neutralizes or balances out the oiliness of the chicken. However, I wouldn't recommend drizzling the maple syrup on the chicken because it spoils the original taste and texture of the chicken. Personally, I didn't quite like the taste of the chicken when  I drizzled some of the maple syrup on it. It tasted kind of weird to me but perhaps you may like it if you like the combination of sweet and salty.

Overall, it was still very impressive even though it is quite expensive. I know many people wouldn't pay so much for such a dish but I think it is worth the money. Maybe you can share this with 2-3 friends? The portion is quite big!

Mentaikou Crab Mantou // $23
My least favorite from Sin Lee Foods. I'm not trying to say that it was not tasty or what, but it pales in comparison with the other dishes. The Indian crackers were not crispy, or should I say that they were stale (Lao Hong) already. The crab was surprisingly delicious. It was well-marinated, crispy, and it goes very well with the homemade Mentaikou sauce. The fried mantou was also good. The best way to tackle this dish is to drizzle some of the oozing egg onto the mantou with the crab and the Mentaikou sauce. I would skip the crackers.

It's about 10-15 minutes walk from Tiong Bahru Mrt Station, and it is beside Le Halo.
