Peony Jade...

Mid-Autumn Festival is just around the corner. Besides indulging in all the fanciful mooncakes, it is also the perfect occasion to organise a reunion dinner with your family. It’s been a long time since I had a proper meal with my mum and dad. Work has got me so carried away that I haven’t been spending much time with them. To compensate them, I’m treating them to a sumptuous Chinese feast.

Recently, the Michelin-awarded Peony Jade has rolled out their newest and very value-for-money ‘Red Hot Chilli Crabbers’ set lunch for two at their outlet in Clarke Quay. Priced at only $138.80++ for two, you can get to enjoy a feast that starts from 1) Peony Jade’s Trilogy of hand-crafted Cantonese Dim Sum combination (玉河畔精选粤港点心小碟), comprising of Pan-seared Prawn in Filo Wrap (龙须虾卷); Poached Dumpling in Hot & Sour Broth (京式饺子) and Steamed Pork ‘Siew Mai’ with Tobiko (鱼子蒸烧卖), 2) choosing one Crab of your choice (玉河畔精选螃蟹) from Singapore’s Favourite Wok-Fried Chilli Crab (辣椒螃蟹), Singapore’s Famous Black Pepper Crab (黑椒炒螃蟹) Sand Wok-Fried Crab with White Pepper, 3) Sautéed Beef Fillet with Hong Kong Kale (牛肉炒芥), 4) Szechuan Spicy “Dan Dan” Noodles (麻辣担担面), 5) Chilled Fresh Mango Puree with Sacs & Sago Pearl (香芒西米露) as well as 6) A Glass of Singapore Sling.

If you haven’t got the chance to spend some quality time with your family, this is your chance. Bring them to Peony Jade this Mid-Autumn Festival and treat them to the ‘Red Hot Chilli Crabbers’ feast, and trust me, they won’t be disappointed! Also, remember to bring an empty stomach along because you wouldn’t want to waste the food!

Doesn’t the lunch set looks very tempting? I left the room with a very satisfying tummy!

Peony Jade's Trilogy of Hand-crafted Cantonese Dim Sum Combination
From the picture, you can just see how beautiful-looking the appetiser was plated! It was a pleasant surprise because I didn’t expect them to put so much effort into the first dish. The Siew Mai has a very nice chewy texture and it was flavourful. They were very generous with fillings in the Siew Mai. The Pork Dumpling in Hot & Sour broth was not too bad – the flavour was strong and it opens up your appetite. But it might be a little spicy for some people. Again, they were generous with the pork fillings. The Pan-seared Prawn in Filo Wrap was my favourite out of the three. It was super crispy (can hear the crunch when I gently bite it) and it was super addictive. I can eat at least 4 of this on my own but again good stuff should be eaten in moderation. This Dim Sum platter was a good start to my feast!

As I mentioned at the beginning, you can choose one type of crab between the three. It’s really hard to choose because each has its own charm. I bet you will have a very hard time choosing but you can either choose your favourite flavour or try a new flavour.

Singapore's Favourite Wok-Fried Signature Chilli Crab
The safest pick would be our all-time favourite Chilli Crab! Peony Jade’s rendition was more flavourful and of course spicier but I liked it. The sauce wasn’t too watery nor starchy, and it is a must to dip the fried and crispy mantou buns into the sauce. We ordered extra mantou because the sauce was simply too irresistible! The crab was huge and the meat was super easy to get from the shell. I’m hungry yet again looking at this picture!

Singapore Famous Black Pepper Crab
Another famous crab in Singapore – Black Pepper Crab. Again, Peony Jade has outdone themselves. The pepper flavour was strong but not too overwhelming. The kick comes at the back making the crab very ‘shiok’ to eat. Careful, this is also quite spicy but spicy is good! I would order a rice just for the sauce!

Sand Wok-Fried Crab with White Pepper
Haven’t tried this flavour before but I can tell you I fell in love once I sipped on the sauce! It was buttery but not jelat, and has a subtle peppery sauce which made it very pleasurable to eat. This wasn’t as spicy as compared to the rest but still has a kick at the end. The sauce is so addictive!

Sauteed Beef Fillet with Hong Kong Kale
The beef was definitely well-marinated and flavourful. It was consistent throughout because there wasn’t a single beef that was too dry or tough. Texture was really good! Another dish that calls out for a bowl of rice! Veggies were crunchy!

Szechuan Spicy 'Dan Dan' Noodles
This dish got me very confused. It wasn’t as spicy as what its name suggests but my tongue got numb after a while. Noodles had a very nice texture.

Chilled Fresh Mango Puree with Sacs & Sago Pearl
Completed my feast perfectly with the not to be missed Mango puree with sacs and sago pearl. Thank god it wasn’t overly sweet, definitely a life-saver from the crazily hot weather these days!
