Bali 2018
Here are some pictures I took during my Bali trip this year in March. Time to head there soon!

This year I had the opportunity to travel to Bali to have a sneak preview to what the Bali 2018 can actually offer. I enjoyed a 1 for 1 stay at Four Points by Sheraton in Kuta and it was an amazing holiday even though it was only a 3D2N stay. The hotel staffs were very hospitable – Room service was really good and efficient, food (breakfast spread) exceeded my expectation, and the facilities were great! Because I got to save so much on my accommodation, I got more money to spend on travelling and food! The first few pictures are taken at Cuca Restaurant which was my favourite restaurant during my stay in Kuta. Ambiance was nice and the food was both affordable & delicious! If you are planning to head to Bali or already a frequent visitor of Bali, you should totally purchase the app because it really helps you to save a lot of money!

Kabuke...

Dislike to dine in crowded places? Fighting hard to avoid the queue? Looking for a private place to chill with your families and friends? Love sakes and Japanese food? If yes, you are in for a serious treat!

Tucked in a corner along Telok Ayer street hides a quiet secluded restaurant that serves a variety of exquisite contemporary Japanese eats at an affordable price. On top of that, this hidden gem also offers an extensive range of sake to pair with their food. If you are totally clueless about sakes, you don’t have to worry at all. Kabuke has thoughtfully penned down all the relevant details of each sake in their menu.

Honestly speaking, this is one place I would love to visit again because the food left a very strong and good impression on me! You’ll know it eventually when you head down to Kabuke!

Are you drooling? I guess you will if you're having this table full of mouth-watering Japanese dishes! It’s so hard to pick a favourite because I really liked all of them. Definitely the perfect place to spend with your friends/colleagues after a long stressful day of work! You might want to have your TGIF here!

Salmon Bruschetta
Kick-starting the meal with a seemingly simple Salmon Bruschetta, but blew our minds away. Salmon was fresh and well-mixed with Crème Fraiche – sweet and sour combination was good!

Shiso Tempura with Hotate Tartare
The truffle smell already hit my nose before this was served onto my table. Scallops were well-seasoned and well-cooked. How to eat this? Finish it with one mouth! Shiok!

Tuna Tataki
The tuna was well-marinated and very tender. Just gently bite it and it melts in the mouth. Paired with the aromatic garlic chips, I can easily finish the entire plate all by myself!

Takoyaki Fries
Can I not share this? The Takoyaki Fries are so addictive that once you start eating, you literally can’t stop. I also liked the bits of octopus that can be found in the fries.

Crispy Goma Wings
Another dish that I’m not willing to share! The wings were crispy and very well-marinated! Dip it into the wasabi (with a subtle yuzu aroma) for maximum pleasure!

Baby Corn
Corn-verter! Did you get my pun? For people who doesn’t really like corn, you’ll fall in love once trying this dish! No joke, especially with the combination of pork floss and siracha mayo on the corn!

Miso Pork
Thank God the pork wasn’t too fatty! Sauce really complemented the pork very well!

Nasu Dengaku
The egg-plant was well-baked to achieve a soft and melty texture. It was also well-seasoned and very flavourful!

Mini Beef Bowl
Before you start on this mouth-watering bowl, break the runny egg and mixed the entire bowl. The beef was well-cooked, very tender and juicy. Again, the garlic chips are so damn good, complemented the beef so well!

Kabuke Cheese Platter & Sake Flight
If you are a cheese/sake-lover, you need to order this! Different flavoured cheese to pair with different sakes!

Five Nines...

Cuppage Plaza is like a “mini Japanese food heaven” with several hidden and affordable Japanese eats. Five Nines, formerly situated on Keong Saik Road, is relocated on the fourth level of Cuppage Plaza and is now offering value-for-money European-Japanese fare prepared with seasonal ingredients from Japan. Opens until the wee hours, this cosy restaurant also serves affordable and decent Omakase – 6 course at only $49++ which I’ll be sharing more in this blog post. So, mark this place down if you are looking for a reasonable Omakase experience or a supper hangout place in town!

Even though it was a 6-course Omakase, I walked away feeling very full and satisfied. They definitely did not compromise on the quality of the ingredients although it was only priced at $49++. Since the restaurant is really small, I would suggest making a reservation for the Omakase before heading down. You wouldn’t want to make a wasted trip!

Marinated Botan Shrimp with Couscous Salad
Did you see the salmon roe? They were quite generous with the portion they served! Shrimp was fresh, crunchy and it goes well with the Tosazu Vinegar which had a subtle yuzu aroma at the end. The prawn shells on both side was crispy but a little too oily for me!

Foie Gras Terrine and Bruschetta
This was one of my favourite dish at Five Nines! Foie Gras was well-cooked, tender and does not have a game smell. It paired very well with the citrusy Smoked Orange Jam which the flavour lingers in the mouth.

Garlic Flavoured Squid Ink Tagliolini
Pasta had a great texture – firm and springy. You can also find a little broth in the pasta which I thought was sweet and flavourful. Not bad!

Steam Cod Fish Rolled With Parma Ham
Cod fish was well-steamed to attain a melty texture. The cream sauce complemented the fish very well and it was not jelat. Could do another portion of this!

Mozzarella with lamb Tender Loin Fritto
Never a big fan of lamb-related dishes because I’m very much afraid of the lamb smell that comes if the dish is not prepared properly. The batter was not too bad, very crispy but I thought it was a bit too heavy for me. But the sauce was really good!

Creme Brulee with Raspberry Sorbet
After a heartening meal, it’s great to complete the meal with a satisfying dessert. The crème brulee was good, with a slight crisp on top and very rich and melty on the inner layer. Raspberry sorbet was refreshing and not too sour. All in all, a good combination!

Froroll...

Coalescing her background on geographical studies as well as her interest in baking, former Campus Superstar contestant, Keely Wee, has recently opened her dessert café in the Venue Shoppes at Potong Pasir. This cosy café offers an extensive range of exquisite and Instagram-worthy desserts at a very reasonable price. From cakes, pastries, ice cream to plated-desserts, Froroll has definitely proven itself to be one of the most hyped dessert café to visit in Singapore currently. If you have a sweet tooth like me, this is the best place to get it sorted out!

This is my second time here and still can’t help to be amazed and impressed by the desserts at Froroll. Not only are they aesthetically-pleasing to the eyes, they are also very pleasurable to the tastebuds. One thing I liked about their desserts is that they aren’t overly sweet and jelat!

Summer In Ceylon & My Fair Lady // $4.80 each
Summer in Ceylon (Yellow) – Mango & Lychee syrup in Ceylon Tea with Nata De Coco
My Fair Lady (Red) – Peach Concentrate in Hibiscus Tea with Chia Seeds
Both drinks were fruity and very refreshing but it was a little too sweet for me. Adding a little bit of water might be the best solution. Other than that, flavour was really good!

Volcanic Avalanche // $15.80
This is the second time I’m having this and I can’t stop singing praises of it. Before you even starts to eat, you should prepare your camera to video the pouring of Nitrogen into the dessert. Hidden within the Chocolate Volcano Shell lies a molten Lava Cake and a creamy Vanilla Ice Cream roll which complemented one another very well. Lava cake was rich but not jelat. Highly recommended to get this!

Flowerpecker's Nest // $15.80
This has to be one of the most creative and beautiful dessert I’ve ever seen this year. So pretty I could hardly bear to eat it. One thing that caught my attention was the Nest (made from Fried Vermicelli and Salted Pretzel Sticks coated with Dark Chocolate) which was crispy and super addictive. We were all fighting to finish that! The Chocolate Egg comes in 3 different flavours – Salted Caramel Ice Cream with Caramelized Biscuit, Chocolate Mousse and Cheesecake Mousse with Lemon Curd. All in all, perfect combination!

Berry Rosy Flower Pot // $15.80
Another impressive creation from Froroll! Inside the pot lies a Vanilla Pound Cake at the bottom with Strawberry Ice Cream Roll, followed by Strawberry Compote and Butter Cookie Crumbs, and lastly a tangy Lemon Curd and Crème Chantilly topped with Oreo Cookie Crumbs. The complex layering shows how delicate and exquisite the dessert is which honestly has no flaws to me. One bite and I literally can’t stop! This dessert is also accompanied with a Panna Cotta with Strawberry Compote which complemented the pot very well since it is a little bit sour. Good combination!

Other than all these desserts, they also have nice ice cream rolls. Do check Froroll out because I think it is worth a visit! Definitely be back again!
